One of the biggest fears of older people is losing their ability to support themselves and becoming dependent on others.

If you are an older person, you may wish to take advantage of the benefits of a charitable remainder annuity trust. A charitable remainder annuity trust may be funded with cash, and some donors choose to fund their annuity trusts with highly appreciated property, such as real estate or securities.  Your annuity trust will generate both a current income tax charitable deduction and tax-free income.

Of course, cash is the simplest way to fund an annuity trust, but if you have appreciated assets such as securities or a home or other property that has increased in value, there are some advantages in donating these appreciated assets to charity, which can then be used as the basis for an annuity trust.

While a charitable remainder annuity trust has important advantages, it usually appeals more to investors who desire a fixed payment regardless of market conditions. Our Planned Giving staff would be glad to discuss options for charitable giving with you. To contact us please call (800) 900-9021, visit our Planned Giving webpages or simply e-mail us.

The Quiet Hour confidently supports the following required statement and encourages prospective donors to give it consideration:

THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. ANY PROSPECTIVE DONOR SHOULD SEEK THE ADVICE OF A QUALIFIED ESTATE AND/OR TAX PROFESSIONAL TO DETERMINE THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS OR HER GIFT. Payments made under a charitable gift annuity are backed solely by the full faith and credit of the issuing organization, are not insured or guaranteed by an insurance company, are not protected by any insurance guaranty association and are not backed in any way by the states.
