Many of us might agree with this statement, but does our estate plan suggest that we really believe it? For many Christians, the answer is clearly “YES!” When a Christian faces death, it is not with a sense of fear and loss, but with the understanding that we will surely be with the Lord forever, and that all that we have is His.
The Apostle Paul put it rather bluntly: “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.” (1 Timothy 5:8) Our Savior taught us that while we can’t take our stuff with us, we can send it on ahead: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
It’s not surprising that Christians often follow the Bible’s teachings regarding their estates. They want to provide for the needs of their families and also to leave something to help others learn to trust fully in the Lord Jesus Christ.
So we encourage you to take a fresh look at your estate plan.
