FAQs about Windows of Hope

When did Windows of Hope begin?
Actually, under different program names, The Quiet Hour has broadcast several television programs since 1949, with founder J. L. Tucker, his son LaVerne Tucker, and grandson (and current host) Bill Tucker.

Do you have a program log?
The stations that carry Windows of Hope not only move our slots around their schedules, but rebroadcast the programs several times a week, so we have a hard time keeping track ourselves! If you check with your favorite provider’s web site under “program schedule,” you’ll find the broadcast times.

J. L. Tucker, shown here in 1949 on The Quiet Hour’s set at KGO television in San Francisco, demonstrated the love and grace of Jesus as being of greater importance than legalism. God’s “law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Galatians 5:14 KJV. J. L. Tucker was decades ahead of his time with his message of grace!

How can I get the program on my home TV?
In most areas, you need a specifically-programmed satellite dish (US$199 at www.adventistsat.com) to download Windows of Hope. Or it may be rebroadcast in your area by a cable company or a repeater station.

May I watch WOH on my computer?
Yes. You can now watch the sermon portion and the interview and mission feature segments of the programs. Click here to view video clips. The clips are posted at the end of the month in which they play, until the October-April season is complete. Once posted, the clips will remain archived, just as the printed sermon transcripts are.

Why doesn't Windows of Hope play on "free" broadcast TV channels?
It does in a few areas. Purchasing airtime can cost thousands of dollars per month, per channel. If you or your fellow believers have the means to sponsor the program in your area, we would be thrilled to speak with you!

Are you a TV station?
No. We record television programs and have them played on satellite and cable networks. Airtime and production costs are very expensive, so your support is fundamental to our success.

Where and when do you record Windows of Hope?
The program is videotaped, 26 episodes at a time, on our set near Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in April or May. Some videos are shot on location around the world (Mexico, Peru, Philippines, El Salvador, Ghana, etc.,) where Pastor and Mrs. Tucker are ministering, and inserted when the episode is later edited. Some voiceovers are recorded in our California studio.

I'm a musician or author and would like to be featured. Is that possible?
It’s not impossible, but it’s not likely, either, as we have themes, guests, scripts, copyright permits, and sets being prepared long in advance of taping. Also, one of the stations airing our program is extremely selective of who is approved for airplay. If you would like your recording or book to be considered for a Windows of Hope feature, please contact Mrs. Jackie Tucker by mail at The Quiet Hour, Box 3000, Redlands, CA 92373 USA. Your submissions cannot be returned.

I'm a financial contributor to The Quiet Hour Why must I pay for certain book or music offers?
By law, there must be a clear distinction and careful accounting procedures made between donations and purchases. Contributions are spent on the mission project or ministry you chose on your response form at the time you made the contribution, and in most cases, are tax deductible. Your contribution has already paid for a missionary to spread the gospel, or it built a chapel, or supplied food and clothing to orphans. The books or videos or music items that we offer are for your convenience, but even The Quiet Hour doesn’t get them for free. The sale proceeds pay the artist, the publishing or recording costs, distribution, etc. We do not make a profit on product sales. We are most grateful for your continued financial support and we hope that the products will enrich your life!

When I call the toll-free number with my prayer request or to order a product, who answers the phone?
The Adventist Information Ministry, AIM, located in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and their operators take prayer requests, donations, and phone orders. Their number is 800-379- 7171, and they are available during more hours of the day and night than we can be. They transmit the information securely by computer data file, to our office in California.
