This Quiet Hour trip has been the best vacation/mission trip that I have ever been a part of. I want to thank The Quiet Hour for asking my Mom [Wendy Cassell] to do the children's program on the February 2006 evangelism campaign in the Philippines. Our program was connected with Pastor Bill Tucker's adult evangelism meetings nearby.
I woke up on my third day in the Philippines and absolutely did not want to be there. My thoughts changed as soon as we got to the church elementary school where we personally invited the students to attend our evening meetings. The kids were very friendly and wanted to leave with us when we left the classrooms.
Mom told me that we were to expect around 400 kids before the next week even started. Well, I thought she was over-estimating, because when our church holds evangelistic meetings, we’re lucky to get maybe 10 kids. There were at least 100 kids before the meeting even started. We found out later that some of the kids weren’t going home for dinner after school for fear that they would miss our meeting. I think Mom said on the first night, we had 250 kids. I was very impressed. By the time we had a call for baptism, we had around 400 kids. When we made the call to accept Jesus as Savior, 80 kids came forward. Eight-Zero! I was very impressed at how God was working through my mom and the rest of the family. Our top attendance was on Saturday morning, February 18. We had 500 kids.
That’s just one of the many things that happened to our team. If that could happen every time we had an evangelistic crusade, I think that we could have a church in every town of America, population 100 or 1,000,000. It is possible to convert more than five or six in an evangelistic meeting. If God is on your side, anything can happen.
I have one more thing to say. To all of you who think you aren’t capable of doing mission work, I believe you are wrong. If God can use an ordinary 15 year-old like me, he can use you. Look at Nehemiah in the Bible. He was just a king’s household servant and God used him to lead the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. Think about it. God can work through you!
