What lights your fire?

Exhilarating! Wonderful! Fulfilling! Exciting! These words fitly describe the meetings that took place during the month of February, 2006 in the Philippines. The joint cooperative efforts of evangelistic teams from The Quiet Hour, the Voice of Prophecy and Share Him (formerly Global Evangelism) impacted hundreds of thousands of lives. Thousands were baptized, and thousands more are continuing to be nurtured in follow-up meetings and study programs.

It was a spiritual tonic for me, after fighting flu and an upper respiratory infection for weeks in December and early January. My strength was renewed by the Lord. Each day my voice became stronger, and by the end of the meetings, it was a mountaintop experience. The joy of sharing Jesus to the downtrodden in the Barangay villages, speaking to thousands nightly, and calling men and women to follow Jesus in complete surrender was a nightly elixir. We had pastors of other faiths convicted of the gospel as found in the entire Bible, we had prison inmates and ex-cons with tears flowing, being baptized into Christ and His church. A woman gave up her wizardry, and burning her charms and tarot cards: that brought hundreds to confess their sins to the Lord Jesus. We baptized a committed 17 year-old who moved forward with Christ in spite of persecution and being disowned by her own family. To see her new church family rally around her, and new church friends bringing love and home to her, brought tears to many.

Bacolod City, on Negros Island, was the venue for my parents (Pastor LaVerne and Alma Tucker), Pastor Jim and Jean Zachary, and me, in a citywide evangelism program in 1987. Nineteen years later, my mother and Jean Zachary, now octogenarian widows, came back to share Jesus at their own evangelistic site, carrying on the passion and vision of their husbands. It was thrilling to witness a college student from Illinois, Katrina Lubinski, sharing her faith with other students attending our college and academy. Her testimony and life touched hundreds of lives as she preached her first campaign. One of the highlights of the Philippine experience was seeing the large evangelism campaign for children that drew up to 500 energized and enthusiastic kids. They were led nightly by Scott and Wendy Cassell and their three sons, all from Arkansas. Wendy preached each evening and called young people to decision. More than 100 children were baptized because of the Cassells’ dedication. We anticipate that these children will lead their families to Jesus in the months and years to come.

Praise God for the 1135 people that were baptized in our Quiet Hour meetings in Bacolod. Thousands more were baptized in Quiet Hour-sponsored meetings being conducted by 59 other teams.

From September 9-24, 2006, The Quiet Hour “invades” the beautiful, tropical, Central American country of Costa Rica. More than 25 teams will descend on this verdant place called “little Switzerland.” The Quiet Hour and Share Him will lead ministerial student teams from Germany, and laity all over North America to Costa Rica. The passion and fire of the Holy Spirit will invigorate both the volunteer evangelists and the thousands of people they’re going to serve. For some, this will be the first experience in preaching a complete series of sermons. For others, it will be the first time they learn of the saving power and grace of Jesus Christ. Won’t you join us? Call or e-mail our evangelism department, 800-900-9021, to learn how to be on the team.

Catch the passion of evangelism. Join us on upcoming evangelism endeavors. You will have a life-changing experience that you will remember forever. We need your prayers, and we need your faithful support as we bring light to the darkness, and particularly to Costa Rica, a resort area that draws pleasure seekers from all over the world. I believe that God is going to do something special again as He did in the Philippines, and as He is doing in so many corners of the earth. We are living in dramatic and uncertain, but exciting times to share the good news of salvation. Your partnership with The Quiet Hour in evangelism, whether financially or by your efforts, will change lives, now and throughout eternity.
