From August 7–26, 2007, Pastor Bill and Jackie Tucker, Georgia Burt (staff member at The Quiet Hour) and 10 teams shared Jesus’ love with thousands of people in Peru.
The Quiet Hour teams painted a fresh picture of a new life with Jesus as their Abba “Daddy” for many in this gospel-hungry country.
The mission teams’ home-base city of Iquitos, Peru, is the gateway to the Amazon River basin. In the smaller villages of the Amazon, inhabitants not only suffer from hunger, but infectious diseases, injuries, and other medical conditions.
Peru is home to more than 28 million people. While some regions of Peru “boom” economically with tourists, many areas are poverty-stricken. Unwed teen mothers can barely provide food for themselves, let alone tiny babies. Sometimes the babies cannot survive unless they are taken into an orphanage. Orphaned small children sleep on cardboard pieces at night, after a day of picking over the city dumps for food and bits to sell.
In addition to sharing Christ through meetings in the evenings, the Tuckers and other team members visited smaller Amazon villages to share physical healing continue the ministry of Jesus, the Great Physician. As part of the healing ministry of The Quiet Hour, team members participated in three clinics in villages along the Amazon River. Six clinics were also held in Iquitos at churches which doubled as halls for the evening meetings.
The Quiet Hour partners with Peru Projects and the East Peru Mission to provide air and river-launch medical services, Bible teachers, and pastors for the people of this region.
Pastor Bill Tucker says, “We witnessed God’s power in so many ways while working in cooperation and partnership with Peru Projects personnel, and the leadership of the East Peru Mission. I had the opportunity to meet new believers from some of the jungles along the Amazon where The Quiet Hour’s sponsored workers are sharing the gospel. I was excited to see the genuine interest and responses of the people.”
To visit these precious new believers and see some of the jungle chapels (funded by Quiet Hour supporters), the Tuckers and a few others had the opportunity to fly in the Lake Amphibian plane, one of two planes donated by The Quiet Hour in the 1970s to help the gospel work in the Amazon Basin. The mission plane is still reaching people with Jesus’ healing hands.
Thanks to The Quiet Hour supporters’ financial contributions and prayers, about 1,500 people have joined the family of God through baptism. Others continue to learn about God through The Quiet Hour’s gospel workers in the region, and countless more lives were touched through the ministry of the 10 teams! |
