FRIDAY, AUGUST 17
Good morning.
I will keep this one short this morning. The computer was idle, so I thought I’d just send a brief note before breaking the fast.
We had a good meeting last night, even though the attendance was average. They are such nice people, and enjoy singing and all the phases of the meetings. The children’s activities have been good, and very well attended.
You know, when working with Dr. Shearer, and being under pressure to see as many patients as possible in a given time, it sort of teaches one the importance of patience. Each individual has different needs, whether real or perceived. And to be kind and loving with each one sometimes gets difficult. But I try! I imagine that doctors in regular practice have similar experiences, as most of them are human, also!
Last night I picked up more maps of Iquitos, as requested. Our taxi driver knows where all the churches are, and we marked them on the map so that I can take a picture of it to project the area on the screen if and when I am invited to give a report.
I watched CNN last night and saw more about the earthquake here in Peru. It is really a disaster, and so many have died and are still missing. The devastation is horrible.
Today we will be going to San Juan for our clinic.
Have a good day. It is Friday, and Sabbath will be here soon.
Thanks for your prayers.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, part 2
Good morning.
Had a good meal at the Ana Stahl Clinic and have been struggling with the computer since then. I have been struggling with this computer for over half an hour! slow, Slow, SLOW. It drives one bananas and watermelons to sit and wait and have nothing happen.
We had a very busy clinic this morning at San Juan, a section of town out near the airport. Maranatha built the church about four years ago, and it is in very good shape. Very strong, and will last a long time.
There were the usual sections of clinic work, except the dentists have returned to the States already.
“We” saw 83 patients this morning. Many cataracts and other ailments, as well as regular prescriptions for glasses.
We did get one passing shower this morning, but nothing to worry about.
This traffic down here is capable of sending one to the nut-house! Motor-cabs, motorcycles, busses, once in a while a car, many trucks, and everybody jostling for first place in line. I am surprised there are not more accidents.
Have a good weekend.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 18
Feliz sábado, We say down here! Happy Sabbath to all.
With Sabbath school starting at 8:30, we get out at 11:00, if the preacher does not go overtime. And I can guarantee that the one here does not go over the allotted time.
I have brought the transformer (converter) back to the hotel so that I can do some studying for the evening meeting, and also get a good lead for the week’s talks.
We had a good service this morning, with the church full. I recalculated the attendance on the basis of 7 per bench instead of 6 that I had previously estimated. And there are 22 benches. So that gives me a ball-park figure for those seated, then add those standing in the aisles.
I finished my two talks on “God Interrogates Man.” We reviewed last week’s studies, and then continued with the new ones today. I have found it very effective in getting the audience involved, remembering the various questions God has posed to different Bible characters. I had thought of singing one of my favorite songs today, “God Gave the Song,” but when I tried it last night I has too hoarse to tackle it. Might do it next Sabbath.
One of my past-times while traveling in these famous motor-cars is counting the ones we encounter. Going this morning there were 250, but coming back it was only about 175. We have had over 350 at peak times. We had a different driver coming back from church, a brother who volunteered to bring us to the hotel. He seemed much more cautious in handling traffic that our regular driver.
I told the audience that Friday night I’d show them the pictures I have taken while here in Iquitos. They were very pleased. I think I have over 400 by now.
Lots of love to all, and keep on praying.
Harvey
