Peru:
Gateway to the Amazon

From small towns to Amazon jungle villages isolated from the outside world, the fields are ripe for harvest in Peru.

As the time nears for Jesus’ return, Peru is emerging as one of the richest harvest fields on earth. Past outreaches sponsored by The Quiet Hour there have helped reap harvests as large as 37,355 precious souls in a single year!

Knowing the potential impact, the Peru Union Mission office requested we return to their country. Bill and Jackie Tucker, along with nine other teams, are ministering in Peru right now. Their goal is to help share the gospel and reap a huge harvest through two weeks of medical clinics, Vacation Bible School, orphanage visits and nightly harvest meetings. In addition, they’ll also minister to indigenous people living in the jungles of the Amazon River, isolated from the outside world.

Nine teams are serving in Peru for this huge outreach!

Medical outreach:
Ending physical AND spiritual suffering.
Because there is so much poverty in Peru, many people cannot go see a doctor when they are sick. Our medical clinics, health expos and health lectures attract huge crowds! And we know from experience that, as patients and their families receive this care in Jesus’ name, they often decide to attend our harvest meetings as well. In some cases, miracles occur in answer to a doctor’s prayer, providing tangible evidence even to the fiercest skeptics of God’s amazing power.

Reaping the harvest:
Family talks, children's ministry and exciting meetings.
During The Quiet Hour’s last outreach to Peru, one church was so full during our popular meetings, church members waited outside to allow their guests to hear the sermon. To attract and reach secular families, we are also offering practical help through our “Family Talks,” as well as a ministry for children while their parents attend the life-changing sermons.

Amazon tribes:
Taking the gospel deep into the jungle.
Through The Quiet Hour’s Amazon Basin Project, 38 remote jungle villages now have a Christian witness as well as access to medical and dental care, along with missionary plane and boat support. This new outreach is a great opportunity to reach people in one of the least evangelized areas on earth! The all-volunteer mission teams will minister both physically and spiritually to these indigenous people who are hungry to have the same hope for the future that we have in Christ.

YOUR SUPPORT means a lot to Bill and Jackie. Please pray for this effort and give if you are led!

“Once Peru was a difficult harvest field. Yet God has blessed our work there beyond all expectations. In one area we targeted for evangelism, 37,355 were baptized in a single year. This was many times the harvests for several years before. Because of results like this, the Peru Union Mission is asking for our help once again. We cannot fail them! Jackie and I give God all the glory for the lives He is changing through The Quiet Hour!” —Bill   “The people of Peru long to know Jesus. Many live in the jungles along the Amazon River and struggle with disease, malnutrition and early death. To be able to bring some physical help to them, as well as the spiritual message, will be a blessing to The Quiet Hour teams. In addition, our evangelism series will strengthen churches whose missionaries we help send to these remote locations. Please pray for this effort.” —Jackie

Standing strong on Scripture
Although most Peruvians call themselves Christians, few know that Jesus is coming soon. Many also do not realize that they can know their Savior personally. In this context Victor stood out in high school because he was an Adventist. His classmates continually harassed and poked fun at him. His religion teacher regularly assured him that he would likely end up in hell.

Then a new teacher came to his religion class, a priest. Immediately, his classmates raced to the front of the room to point out the “heretic.” Concerned, the teacher asked Victor to name the four Gospels.

With The Quiet Hour's help, the church is growing rapidly in Peru. One region where we work saw 37,355 baptisms in a single year!

The worried boy answered correctly. Then he asked Victor to repeat the Lord’s prayer, which Victor also did. Lastly, Victor was required to repeat the Apostle’s Creed. After seeing Victor successfully pass this test, the new teacher told Victor, “Well done, you’re a good Catholic.”

But Victor did not agree. “No,” the boy protested. “I am an Adventista.”

What happened next surprised the rest of the class as well as Victor. “We’re all adventistas,” said the priest. “We believe Jesus will come again.” Thanks to the kind and wise priest, Victor was not tormented again.

Victor’s faith made him different. His knowledge of Scripture gave him the courage to stand up for what he believed.

Disaster Dad:
transformed by the Lord
From an early age, Carlos liked soccer. At times he missed meals so he could play. Although he worked several jobs, he spent all his money getting drunk in bars. He also started smoking. Soon he couldn’t keep a job for long because of his addictions.

At 23, Carlos married, hoping the move would change his life. Instead, he continued his lifestyle of alcohol, parties, cigarettes and bad friends. “I realized at 33 that what had begun as a teenage game had now become my life,” recalls Carlos. “During all that time my family suffered because of me, especially our seven children, whom I was unable to feed and dress properly.”

What had begun as a teenage game turned to despairing addiction until Carlos finally found his roots in God.

God was seeking after Carlos and found him through a local evangelist in Peru. After finishing a Bible course together, Carlos and his wife decided to publicly accept Jesus into their lives.

Today, their whole family attends church and four of their children have been baptized. Carlos shed all his vices and soon found that his income at last provided enough for his wife and children. “We give God all the thanks,” says Carlos today. “He has saved our home.”

“Glory to His mighty name!”
