Last year, The Quiet Hour helped send 12 volunteer missionaries into a frontier of evangelism, the Amazon basin of Peru. Missionaries are providing medical care and even assisting with well-drilling and latrine building projects that prevent diseases and save lives.
This work has reached into dozens of villages so far and 487 new believers have already been baptized. Thousands more are learning about Jesus through Bible studies. This incredible progress has now made the unthinkable a daring goal: to preach the gospel in this region before the current generation passes!
To meet this challenge, The Quiet Hour has joined with Peru Projects, Inc. and the East Peru Mission to triple the number of volunteer missionaries reaching remote tribes living along the mighty Amazon River. So far this year, 44 men and women filled with the Holy Spirit and love for preaching the gospel have completed our rigorous three-week training program. But sadly, only 30 have been sent due to lack of resources.
The ultimate goal: to reach the more than 1,000 tribes and jungle villages that still have not heard that Jesus is coming soon. Here's the bold new plan:
BUSH PILOTS: Evangelists and life-savers!
Christian pilots transport missionaries and supplies to remote jungle villages that would be virtually unreachable any other way. They also provide medical evacuations for both villagers and missionaries, saving lives. And their dramatic water and rough-terrain landings amaze villagers, opening the door even wider to preach the gospel. The opportunity: Deliver missionaries, air drop supplies and perform medical evacuations for 28 villages.
$114.22 provides air support for 1 village for 1 month. JUST DO IT!
MEDICAL BOAT PROGRAM: Hope and Help.
In many areas of the dense jungle, airplanes just can't land. And with no sanitation or safe water supply, dangerous illnesses are common among the Amazon tribes. Malnutrition also contributes to sickness and death, especially among the children. The medical boat program responds to conditions that missionaries cannot treat, and even perform surgery, all in Jesus' name. The opportunity: Provide lifesaving medical care, including surgery, for tribes on the Amazon River, in Jesus' name.
$78.05 covers 1 day's outreach to 1 village. JUST DO IT!
JUNGLE CHAPELS: Building churches that grow.
Reports are flowing in of tremendous harvests among the jungle villages of the Amazon. In one village, the tribal chief was at first terrified by the outsiders who came in from the air. Once he was reassured, he gave his life to Jesus. Dozens of baptized new believers in his village and others now need a place to study the Bible, worship and bring others to hear the gospel. The opportunity: Build chapels in 38 villages to strengthen and grow new congregations.
Between $800 and $1,200 builds 1 chapel. JUST DO IT!

Reaching the Amazon tribes
Before the false prophets do.
Our time is short to reach the Amazon tribes before Christ's soon return. And because so many have little or no exposure to the outside world, we also face the challenge of reaching them before false prophets do.
In one instance, we came too late. A man called "Edward" convinced a tribe that he had taken ill, died and gone to heaven. There he saw Noah, the Virgin Mary, several Bible prophets and Jesus. He told the villagers that, when he was brought back to earthly life, he knew from this experience that Jesus would return in 2007.
Although Edward never opened a Bible and never cited Scripture, many believed him and were even baptized by him. When our volunteer missionaries arrived in the village, they showed the villagers the Scripture Matthew 24:36 in the Bible, that no one knows the day nor the hour of Jesus' return. The villagers soon realized they had been betrayed, but now they were afraid to trust again. Through ongoing Bible studies and the power of the Holy Spirit, 50 souls were able to have faith in the truth of Christ and were baptized last March! But much more needs to be done to repair the damage of false preaching.
I'm glad we were able to begin the work of overcoming Edward's false teachings. But the challenge was much harder than if we had arrived there first. That's why it's so urgent we increase the scope of the Amazon Project this year. So many are hungry for hope and vulnerable to deceit. With God's help and your support, we can reach them first, so every soul will have the privilege to hear the real truth about Jesus in these last and very important days.
