Five years ago, Vida was walking along a road in her native Ghana. A young man who was a spirit medium came up and slapped her across the face, at which point she fell to the ground, possessed by and controlled by demons.
Once a week, the Southwest Ghana Conference office opens to the public for prayer and counseling. While The Quiet Hour evangelism teams were ministering in Takoradi, Ghana, I visited the conference office, and observed the ministers' prayers for exorcism. In fact, we videotaped the following experience.
The ministers prepared for the day by fasting, and then they prayed for people. Vida and her mother asked for prayer. As the prayer counselors began to intercede for Vida, her body began to sway and she convulsed. The pastors prayed more intensely. She fell to the floor, her body rigid. For five minutes the pastors called her by name. She regained consciousness and they helped her to a chair.
The pastors commanded the demons to speak in English for my benefit. Then they asked why the evil spirits possessed her body. The demons stated that they hated to have this confrontation with the pastors. They said, “We don't want to leave, she belongs to us.” The pastors demanded in the Name of Jesus for the demons to leave.
Vida lapsed into unconsciousness for another five minutes but when she awoke, she was asked if she'd seen anything. She said that she had seen a bright light come into her body, then the demons left. The pastors said the bright light was the Holy Spirit.
Before the demons left, they warned her not to return to her family's house because it belonged to them, and they threatened to return to torment her if she returned to the house. Vida and her parents had been living in a house while their home was being built. They did not realize that the temporary house was a demon “hangout.”
Vida's mother began to weep because they didn't have a place to go. Their home was not finished because they had run out of money to finish the roof. The Quiet Hour team contributed $40 toward the roof repair.

Vida joined with several hundred others in a mass baptism at the ocean near Sekondi, a twin city to Takoradi. Both the mother and the father have indicated that they will make a decision soon to be baptized after further study. |
The local pastors have told us that there are many demonic activities in this region of the country. One of the ways that the demons manifest themselves is to molest both men and women in a sexual way, creating yet another form of addiction and slavery.
Ghana is a very challenging area to reach people for Christ. There is a battle raging, but God will be victorious. We need to pray for the thousands and millions of people of Ghana who are under the spell of the devil, and ask that they find release from Satan's slavery; and find peace, health, and freedom in the arms of Jesus.
