| Working with A Translator
Here are several tips:
1. You may need to shorten your sermon. The translator will need at least as much time as you take. Sometimes he/she will take longer.
2. Use short sentences.
3. Avoid figures of speech. He/she may not understand them. If he/she translates them literally the results may be tragic.
4. Discuss illustrations with him/her. If they are from your home community he/she may not understand them.
5. In a few cases the national Bible may have some poor translations. It may be helpful to discuss the verses with him/her to clear up these points.
6. Avoid colloquialisms. They will not be understood.
7. Remember, your rugged individualism may not go over well. Be sensitive to the culture and feelings of others. |
