Prayer transforms
Costa Rican ten-year-old

Limon Dos Mills, Costa Rica, a very poor village that was known for its violence and crime, was one of 20 sites for gospel meetings in the country. The Quiet Hour’s team members Dr. Robert Lang, Patty Gant, and Wanda Czerwinski were the primary leaders of the meetings in Limon Dos Mills. The meeting site was an awning set up in the middle of a field full of ant hills, which flooded when it rained.

Sergio, ten, attended these gospel meetings. Sergio, an active boy, disrupted the others who were trying to listen. Since there was no separate meeting place for the children, they sat on the front rows at the tent. Sergio seemed to be the leader of a group of boys that would run around, yell, scream, and disturb the meetings. He was defiant and tried to snatch extra gum that the teachers were giving to the children each night.

Wanda and Patty learned that Sergio’s mother was dead and that his father was involved in witchcraft. After two nights of meetings, Patty and Wanda requested special prayer from the group of team leaders that assembled for morning worship. They had special prayer for Sergio.

The next morning in worship, Patty reported that Sergio was like a different child. She said he was calmer and quieter. He still got up and down a lot, but no more screeching and running around. Instead of trying to take extra gum for himself, he helped the teachers to make sure the other children got one each.

Patty began to pay more attention to this child and he responded to her caring and concern for him and his cat.

Prayer is powerful. The devil wanted to disrupt these meetings, but praise God, 15 people were baptized from that small village and others are preparing for baptism.
