—Married twice and twice happy

by Dr. Sydney C. Gibbons

Ngo’o Amba Dominque and Ngo’o Antoinette were married twice during the “Vision of Victory” series in Bali, Douala, Cameroon from January 23 to February 7, 2004. The couple was among nineteen persons who were baptized on February 4 and February 7 at one of 12 sites in Cameroon where evangelistic meetings were held.

The Ngo’o couple was among the seven persons who were re-baptized during the Bali series. The couple had been baptized in their early teen years. They had drifted away from God and decided to renew their walk of faith with Him as a result of the series. They were happily married to each other on February 6 and joyfully married to Christ in baptism on February 7, 2004. The following is a translation of their personal testimony from French. The translation was made by Bali’s Pastor Clovis Soum, and mission treasurer, Pastor James Kwedi. The testimony was submitted by the couple, and with their permission it is published here.

Spiritual testimony of the couple Ngo’o Amba Dominique-husband and lecturer, Government High School, Lycee, D’Akwa, Douala; and Ngo’o Amba, Mohami Antoinette-wife and university student, Douala.

Dear Pastor,

At the end of the “Vision for Victory” series, I would like to give this testimony, together with my wife, for the work of God to be victorious and for His name to take glory through your ministry.
My wife and I are baptized members in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. But during this last decade, my life has been a real trial where I knew many ups and downs. I acted in a way to disgrace my God. I went through hardships— tribulations, which tarnished my image. I worsened my situation in 1999 when I met my wife, and we lived in concubinage until yesterday, Friday, February 6, 2004 at 11:00--the time when we were united through the holy ties of marriage, a real sign of victory.

During this period of concubinage we had three children: one boy named Messanga Ngo’o Jonathan and two twin girls named Abomo Ngo’o Damaris Lovlyn and Yiamanga Ngo’o Georgette Abigaelle, respectively. We experienced ups and downs. But despite all this, God sustained us until I was transferred last September in 2003 to the Government High School in Douala. Upon arrival, we adopted the Bali Seventh-day Adventist Church here in Douala where we met kind and loving brothers and sisters. The church members helped us to find a house to rent. We want to thank the First Elder Ndoumbe and his family, and the church treasurer Sister Essome Regine. We were totally out of the faith. Real backsliders. Just before this crusade was launched, Sister Ecoto came to see us regularly and encouraged us to attend church services. And Sister Ecoto never tired to remind us about our responsibilities before God and even when we failed her by giving excuses for our conduct. The Spirit of the lord descended upon us and we decided to attend the series. And that time marked the beginning of the “Vision for Victory” series held by Pastor Sydney C. Gibbons.

During this period my wife and I had taken the firm decision to be in harmony with God by legalizing our marriage and getting re-baptized. Starting with the mission president, Pastor Herimananana, then the church elders and its members, prayers ascended to heaven for us in order to achieve our goals. The pastors of this mission gave us advice and encouraged us. We determined ourselves to honor this appointment. And all went well. Day after day, evening after evening, the topics developed by the pastor really strengthened our faith. Never had we felt the presence of the Holy Spirit as we did during this time. From the intervention of our church pastor and his wife, Pastor Soum, until the signing of the marriage certificate at the mayor’s office in Bonanjo, Douala, God was with us. All went well under God’s control and in the presence of His ministers at the ceremony.

Today, it’s a new beginning with Christ. We pledge to remain faithful to the Lord. We ask that Christians worldwide would remember us in their prayers that we might remain faithful and always be in perfect harmony with God and men.

To God be the glory. Amen!
