TQH FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
What does The Quiet Hour do?
Evangelism, broadcast media, and publishing are the ministries God has empowered and inspired us to do. Actually, many ministries and projects flourish in The Quiet Hour's name, but these three are our primary functions.
What is your mission?
The Quiet Hour accepts Christ's gospel commission to take to the
ends of the earth the good news of Jesus to make disciples of all
who respond, who are willing to make Him Lord. What is the good
news of Jesus? That God loves us so much that He died to save us
from the consequences of our sins and give us eternal life (John 3:16, 17).
Are you affiliated with a Christian denomination?
The Quiet Hour was founded and has continued as a supporting ministry
of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination, but The Quiet Hour is
not administered by the denomination. We call ourselves a “bridge
ministry” because we are not here to entertain church members or
“preach to the choir,” but rather to reach out and draw all people
to Jesus Christ, regardless of background or affiliation. Most but
not all employees here are Adventists, but we celebrate and deeply
appreciate the culture, study, perspective, and discussion opportunities
that the fellowship with other Christians provides!
Are you part of the Adventist Media Center?
No, The Quiet Hour is a separate entity, although we share ties
of friendship, common objectives, and in some cases, DNA! (Some
of our personnel are related to their personnel.)
Do you receive support from the General Conference?
No financial subsidies are received from the General Conference;
rather, The Quiet Hour supports the General Conference
and its divisions by its service and support of its mission! The
General Conference administration does support TQH by its blessing
and recommendation.
Does The Quiet Hour accept tithe money?
This is a question that occasionally comes our way. We encourage Adventist church members to return their tithes to their own local church. We also realize there are those who for a variety of reasons may wish to return their tithes to The Quiet Hour and we do accept tithes from our supporters. We want to assure our donors that funds which come to us designated as tithe funds are used only as tithe is intended – to support pastors, evangelism, and Bible workers in various parts of the world.
What percentage of donations goes to the actual project?
That depends on the project and how the donor designates the funds. In addition to funding projects, monies are spent very carefully and prayerfully on the supporting foundation of the entire ministry. Your donations are promptly receipted and are tax-deductible to U.S. citizens.
How are The Quiet Hour and Share Him related?
We are sister organizations, separate entities, who often partner together on evangelism projects.
How do we get assistance from The Quiet hour for our mission project?
Contact the evangelism department for information on sponsorship criteria, partnering, fundraising, international issues, working with institutions on the opposite end, and other information.
Do you still sponsor airplanes?
The Quiet Hour started its mission plane ministry in November 1965. Founder J.L. Tucker raised $23,500 for the first aircraft, which was named after him. It served Papua New Guinea for 40 years. When it stopped flying, mission workers salvaged its parts for other planes. Over time, The Quiet Hour has supplied 50 planes. The most recent plane (2008) was a Cessna 182D to serve nearly inaccessible villages in the Philippines. Now The Quiet Hour is embarking on another aircraft project with a new Kodiak for missionary use in Papua New Guinea. We know you'll be excited to see God's guidance in aviation ministries! I’ve heard that The Quiet Hour’s Way of Life Bible Course teaches Bible principles in a loving, grace-filled way. How can I enroll or obtain a set for my friends or Bible class?
If you download or print the Way of Life Bible Course lessons (www.thequiethour.org/bible/guides.php) from your computer and mail them in, they will be graded and returned free of charge. If you wish to study from a colorful printed set, you may purchase a 24-lesson set for US$10 (+ shipping/handling); the price for organizations is $7.50 (+ shipping/handling); and quantity pricing for 25+ sets is $6.50 each (+ shipping/handling). Call The Quiet Hour’s Donor Services, 800-900-9021, to order as many sets as you like.
Do you have materials my church can distribute?
In the past, The Quiet Hour gave away literal truckloads of printed matter—that was when printing and production costs were cheap. That is impossible in today's economy. Our publications are sold very close to actual production cost, to make them as affordable as possible to you, and still allow us to be faithful stewards of donated ministry funds. Please call our Donor Services department to find out if institutional discounts apply to your situation.
Are you a radio or TV station?
No. We record television programs and have them played on satellite and cable networks. Airtime and production costs are very expensive, so your support is fundamental to our success.
Are you still on radio?
We are not currently producing radio programs, but our sermon transcripts are archived and available online, or published in thematic books.
How long has The Quiet Hour been around?
Since 1937, when it was founded by Pastor J. L. Tucker. It has carried on without a break since then, growing under God's hand.
